Body cam footage released in SPD use-of-force cases

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — News 3 has obtained some of the body cam footage from the Savannah Police Department (SPD) related to two separate use-of-force incidents involving Savannah Police officers.

The first incident occurred in June 2024, involving Markel Robinson, a suspect wanted on several charges, including rape. A total of seven SPD officers faced various disciplinary actions, such as suspensions, for their involvement in the incident. Initially, an SPD use-of-force board recommended that two of the officers be terminated due to this arrest, but this decision was reversed after an appeal.

The second incident took place on May 20, 2025, and involved a mother Qua Maine Williams and her son, Verner Ross, both of whom were arrested for obstructing an officer. Williams additionally faced charges of simple assault. This incident came to the attention of the mayor and SPD through a social media post. Disciplinary action was taken against only one officer for the use of vulgar language during the arrest.
