BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) — There was a large law enforcement presence in a Brandon neighborhood Sunday following a deadly shooting.

One person was killed, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday night deputies were still searching for the suspected shooter.

The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle, according to authorities.

Authorities reported that the suspect and the victim engaged in a heated exchange in an apartment building’s breezeway. Subsequently, the suspect drew a firearm and shot the victim, who later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity, but said it was a man who was killed.

“It’s heartbreaking that a man’s life has ended so tragically because of an irreversible act of violence,” stated Sheriff Chad Chronister. “No disagreement should escalate to this level. Our detectives are fully committed to finding the suspect and ensuring that the victim and his family receive the justice they are owed.”

A helicopter was spotted circling the area, and several deputies were seen in the neighborhood.

No further information was immediately available.
