Live: Lawmakers hear from witnesses on Trump actions in Chicago

A group of Democratic lawmakers organized an unofficial “shadow hearing” in Chicago on Friday to discuss federal immigration actions.

This hearing was not sanctioned by the official Judiciary Committee but was instead spearheaded by several Illinois Democrats, including Reps. Jesús “Chuy” García, Delia Ramirez, Robin Kelly, and Danny Davis, alongside Pramila Jayapal from Washington.

Under the banner “Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Assault on Chicago,” the hearing aimed to scrutinize the Trump administration’s immigration policies in the city. It featured witnesses who shared their personal stories, detailing experiences of trauma, potential constitutional breaches, and the effects on labor within the community.
