BRISTOL, Tenn., (WJHL) – The 24th annual Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion began on Friday, showcasing vendors, cuisine, and artists from all over the country.

The festival’s purpose is to celebrate the history of country music in Bristol.

“I believe it’s an homage to the city’s rich heritage as the cradle of country music,” stated Leah Ross of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. “Ralph Peer came here to record the Mountain Music, and from there, it has flourished. In 1998, Congress named us as the birthplace of country music. We honor those historic recordings from 1947 to this day.”

One hundred artists are scheduled throughout the weekend across twelve different stages spanning downtown Bristol.

Ross said that this festival is a great opportunity to discover new music and possibly the next big hitmaker.

“The key aspect of this festival is that you’ll likely encounter an artist who’s new to you,” she mentioned. “Down the road, that person could be the one receiving accolades at major award shows. Reviewing our lineup over the years, you’ll find numerous artists like Tyler Childers, who weren’t widely known when we featured them but have since garnered fame.”

Ross said the most important part of the event is that everyone is having a good time, soaking in the musical history of Bristol.

“What I love most about the festival is witnessing the joy it brings, seeing people smile and enjoy themselves,” she expressed. “When I see that, it confirms that we’ve achieved our goal, which is to thrill our audience and ensure they have a wonderful experience.”

The Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion runs from September 19 to September 21. Tickets are available at the entrance gate. Click here to see the complete artist lineup.
