Bryan County politician announces bid for State Senate

The Chair of the Bryan County Democratic Committee has announced his candidacy for the Georgia State Senate District 1 seat as of Tuesday.

Corey Foreman announced his candidacy and intention to challenge longtime Republican incumbent Ben Watson.

For the past decade, since 2014, Watson has been the senator for District 1, which encompasses Chatham, Bryan, and Liberty County, as noted by the Georgia State Senate’s official site.

Foreman has outlined his campaign objectives, which include enhancing healthcare availability, tackling the issue of affordable housing, promoting workforce development, capitalizing on growth opportunities from the port and Hyundai, and bolstering infrastructure, particularly in areas like flood control and storm readiness.

State campaign documents reveal that Foreman seems to be Watson’s sole challenger. The Primary Election is scheduled for May 19, 2026, with the General Election set for November 3, 2026.
