SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah State’s head coach, Aaron Kelton, has officially announced that Christian Burks will be the starting quarterback. Kelton highlighted Burks’ steadiness and experience as the primary factors for his decision.

Burks, a redshirt junior, participated in eight games last season. He achieved a 55 percent completion rate, totaling 469 passing yards, with two touchdowns and three interceptions. His standout performance occurred against Fort Valley State, where he completed 12 out of 23 passes for 170 yards, despite one interception.

This Saturday, Savannah State will kick off their season at home for the first time since 2022. During that year, they faced a defeat against Southeastern, 34-14. This home game also signals the start of conference play for the Tigers, highlighting the importance of a strong beginning.

“The word ‘downside’ isn’t part of our vocabulary,” Kelton expressed. “Playing at home, regardless of the opponent, we’re prepared to step up. This gives us a chance to get an early advantage in the conference.”

Savannah State opens the 2025 campaign at home against Edward Waters on Aug. 30 with the kickoff set for 6 p.m.
