A teenager was taken into custody in Charleston this past weekend following a brief investigation into a theft, which uncovered that he was wanted in California.
The Charleston Police reported that on Saturday, officers were called to the local Walmart due to an ongoing theft incident. When they arrived, they approached 19-year-old Caleb Dierks.
Authorities stated that during the investigation, they discovered Dierks had an outstanding arrest and extradition warrant from California. However, details regarding the alleged crime in the warrant were not disclosed.
Dierks was arrested without incident and was booked into the Coles County Jail on the California arrest warrant.
Court documents indicate that he appeared before a judge on Monday. A Public Defender was assigned to help him consider his extradition options. The judge ordered that he remain in custody until a status hearing scheduled for September 4.
