JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WHL) — A prominent non-profit organization in the area marked its 40th anniversary on Sunday in its original location.

Mary Lou Copeland founded Good Samaritan Ministries from the basement of East Pine Grove Park Methodist Church.

Aaron T. Murphy, the executive director of the non-profit, has played a key role in Good Samaritan Ministries’ outreach across nine counties in East Tennessee over the years.

“Among our greatest achievements in the past 40 years is feeding those in need. We believe no family or individual should experience hunger,” Murphy told News Channel 11. “Our support extends beyond food to include rent and utility assistance, helping those facing financial difficulties.”

The non-profit’s secretary, Corey Blaske, said this region truly exemplifies what a good Samaritan is.

“Beyond the ministry, in the broader community, there’s a genuine sense of care and willingness to help one another,” Blaske remarked.

Murphy and Blaske are now both setting their sights on the next 40 years.

Murphy expressed to News Channel 11 his main objectives as “sharing the love of Jesus as a priority, alongside providing education and mentorship to families.”

Blaske highlighted his aspirations, noting, “As we deepen our community engagement, more people will become aware of us, and we strive to increase involvement.”
