SAVANNAH, Ga. () — What word trips you up the most when it comes to spelling?
In honor of the 97th Scripps National Spelling Bee, which begins May 27, Google released every state’s most misspelled words.
The word Georgians have the most trouble spelling is ‘necessary.’ In South Carolina, ‘people’ gives people the biggest headache.
WordUnscrambler.com, a website designed to help people learn new words, released this statement about the findings:
“Research indicates that depending heavily on autocorrect can deteriorate spelling abilities as time passes. Certain experts refer to this as digital amnesia. We tend to forget information that we entrust to technology. The increase in misspellings might not stem from a decrease in knowledge, but rather from a reduced necessity to retain information.”
Google made their findings after analyzing Google Trends search data from January 1 to May 19 of this year for “how do you spell” and “how to spell.”
