Central baseball coach reacts to two 2025 draftees

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — It has been quite the summer offseason for Maroons head coach John Staab.

Shortly after completing his 23rd season at Central, two of Staab’s former players were selected in the MLB Draft. Jake Munroe, a 2023 Central graduate, was chosen in the fourth round by the Angels, and Joel Sarver, a 2020 graduate, was picked in the 17th round by the Diamondbacks.

“It says more about them,” Staab commented. “Those guys definitely put in the work, both on and off the field. They prepared throughout the year, training and engaging in such activities, and seized their opportunities when they arose. So, to have played a small role in their success, I am indeed proud. But more than anything, I’m excited for them and their future prospects.”

Munroe and Sarver join Rockies pitcher Tanner Gordon in representing the Maroons with MLB organizations.
