Champaign Co. man accused of stabbing wife during domestic incident

An Urbana Township resident is in custody after the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office reported he allegedly stabbed his wife during a domestic altercation on Sunday night.

Sheriff Dustin Heuerman indicated in a statement released on Monday afternoon that the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on Gurth Drive. A third party contacted authorities on behalf of the victim, who was found by deputies with a stab wound.

The victim was taken to Carle Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

The woman’s husband, 51-year-old Rafael Magdaleno-Mendoza, was taken into custody at the scene without resistance. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated domestic battery and is currently detained, awaiting a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.
