CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Del Jacobs joined WCIA 3’s Amanda Brennan in the studio to discuss Champaign’s upcoming Labor Day Parade and the launch of a new pantry aimed at supporting the community.

The parade will kick off at 11 a.m. on Sept. 1 in downtown Champaign.

“It’s nicknamed the candy parade, and we will be throwing lots of candy,” Jacobs said.

The Labor Day Celebration will kick off at 12 p.m. at the Neil Street Plaza once the parade concludes. Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities, including food, live music, bounce houses, and more.

Jacobs mentioned that the event is generously hosted by the AFL-CIO Central Labor Council of Champaign County. Additionally, there’s a specific branch of the labor council called the Council of Labor Union Women, which plans to open a pantry by the end of the year. They’re set to hold their first pantry drive during the Labor Day Parade.

“We’re asking for period products like diva cups and period panties, along with standard period supplies. We’re also collecting basic hygiene items such as shampoo and laundry detergent,” Jacobs explained.

Jacobs said to donate, all you have to do is bring your supplies to the Neil Street Plaza after the parade.
