22-year-old man shot in Champaign, police seeking more information

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department is conducting an investigation following the discovery of evidence indicating that shots were fired during a sizable overnight gathering.

According to department officials, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Springfield Avenue and Kenwood Road at 1:19 a.m. in response to a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, the officers encountered a large crowd with several ongoing fights.

While the officers attempted to disperse the crowd, officials reported finding signs of gunfire, including damage to a vehicle. There have been no reported injuries.

The officers stayed on-scene for several more hours to process the evidence and canvass the area for any eyewitnesses.
