BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A man was apprehended with fentanyl pills and powder in Bristol, Virginia, following a collaborative investigation, as reported by the Bristol, Virginia Police Department.
Authorities arrested Jermaine Clayton, 20, of Chattanooga on Monday.
Authorities discovered Clayton in possession of over 2,000 fentanyl pills and approximately 60 grams of fentanyl powder, which had been transported to Bristol, Virginia, according to official statements.
The narcotics have an estimated street value of $40,000 to $50,000, the police department said.
“The value of these narcotics extends beyond monetary terms; they represent thousands of potential doses capable of causing harm or resulting in fatalities. This operation has unquestionably saved lives within our community,” stated Chief D. Byron Ashbrook in a release.
Clayton was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II drug. Additional charges are pending.
Clayton was taken to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail at Abingdon, where he is being held without bond.
The operation was conducted with the cooperation of the Bristol, Virginia Police Department’s Vice/Narcotics Unit, Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the FBI.
