ST. CHARLES, Ill. — A chiropractor from Illinois has been charged with secretly filming his patients while they were undressing, according to a statement from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office on Thursday.

David Hanson, 43, who owns Hanson Family Chiropractic in Batavia, is now facing multiple felony charges. Authorities allege that Hanson made recordings of at least 186 patients, the majority of whom were girls and women. The victims range in age from as young as 3 years old to adults.

  • Producing child pornography, Class X felony (5 counts)
  • Disseminating child pornography, Class X felony (3 counts)
  • Possessing child pornography, Class 2 felony (6 counts)
  • Unauthorized video recording of a minor through/under the clothes, Class 3 felony (3 counts)

The investigation into Hanson began in September after authorities received a cyber tip. This tip led investigators to discover several hidden cameras strategically placed behind vents and fans in a red light therapy room, a space where patients typically disrobe in private for treatment.

Efforts are currently underway to identify the individuals captured in the recordings and to determine the exact dates of these instances. Prosecutors have noted that Hanson has been practicing as a chiropractor since 2013.

Investigators are actively working to identify the victims in the recordings and precisely when they took place. Hanson has been practicing since 2013, prosecutors added.

Hanson was also found to be possessing and disseminating multiple videos containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) that were unrelated to his chiropractic practice, according to authorities.

“At this point, we do not know if any of the videos that were created by Dr. Hanson were shared in the way that other child sex abuse material (CSAM) has been shared. When we find that information, we will disclose that. Right now, we just want to work with the potential victims to make sure that they get help, that they know what is happening, and that they’re a part of this process because we’re not going to force people to be a part of this, but we do also want to give them answers,” Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser told WGN-TV.

“They went in for treatment and they went to somebody that they trusted and somebody who was trusted in this community and that trust was violated by him.”

Authorities are seeking anyone who believes Hanson victimized them. Anyone with additional information should call (630) 444-3322.

Following his arrest on Wednesday, Nov. 5, a judge denied Hanson pre-trial release on multiple charges of child pornography and unauthorized video recording of a minor. His next court appearance is Monday, Nov. 10.

Hanson Family Chiropractic is located at 1928 W. Wilson St. in Batavia.
