SAVANNAH, Ga. () — In June, the City Council approved the purchase of a new pothole patrol vehicle.

This autumn, the “Pothole Patrol” initiative is being launched citywide to enhance the speed of pothole repairs. The patrol will continuously operate with a rotating schedule, addressing potholes on the streets of Savannah throughout the year.

This is meant to ensure complete coverage of the city to improve consistency, response time, and overall roadway conditions, according to the City.

In his weekly address on Tuesday, Mayor Van Johnson revealed that the city has teamed up with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) for an internal competition. Students from kindergarten to 8th grade will have the opportunity to propose a name for the new truck.

“We do not rely on the City Council to name that truck,” said Mayor Van Johnson. “We won’t depend on adults to name that truck. We don’t count on city staff to name that truck either.”

Students are invited to submit name suggestions by Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. here.
