A person who was running from federal agents was fatally struck by a vehicle on the 210 Freeway near Monrovia Thursday morning, according to City Manager Dylan Feik.

The person was on the eastbound freeway east of Myrtle Avenue when they were struck by an SUV at about 9:50 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Feik said they had fled on foot from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid at a nearby Home Depot.

They were taken to a nearby hospital, where they later died. CHP is investigating it as a major injury traffic collision.

A SigAlert was issued for the HOV and No. 1 lanes, though they were reopened shortly after 11 a.m.

Officer Larsen of the CHP said all involved vehicles remained at the scene.

DHS did not return KTLA’s request for comment Thursday afternoon, but this story will be updated when a response is received.

Sam Bader, Elizabeth Chapman and Nancy Fontan contributed to this report.
