CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Charleston Police Department apprehended a man on Friday who was found with a knife, a stun gun, and illegal substances.
Kevin W. Johnson, aged 48, was pulled over on Oct. 3 while driving near the juncture of Madison Avenue and 5th Street. Deputy Chief Joel Shute indicated that authorities noticed several traffic violations, both related to movement and vehicle equipment.
Officers learned that Johnson was currently on parole. And, while searching his vehicle, they found a switchblade, a stun gun and methamphetamine.
Johnson was arrested and taken to Coles County Jail. Authorities reported that he is being held for possessing dangerous weapons, having controlled substances, and violating his parole.
He faces two charges for being a felon in possession of weapons and one charge for methamphetamine possession. Additionally, Johnson is charged with two counts of armed violence, as he was illegally in possession of a weapon in conjunction with other offenses, including drug possession.
Johnson will appear in court again for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 27.
