DENVER (KDVR) A day intended for relaxation at some hot springs in Colorado abruptly shifted to a tense police pursuit when a man allegedly evaded authorities, covered in mud and only wearing a Speedo.

On Aug. 26, Clear Creek Dispatch notified Idaho Springs police about a suspect wanted in Douglas County at the Indian Hot Springs, following accusations of credit card fraud and identity theft reported that day.

The suspect was identified as Alec Bogus.

As per the arrest affidavit, officers arrived at the hot springs and found Bogus in a mud bath. They questioned him regarding the alleged credit card fraud, which he denied. The officers then mentioned the warrant from Douglas County and informed him that he would need to accompany them to jail.

While allowing Bogus to shower off the mud before leaving, he unexpectedly ran off, still muddy and in a Speedo. Police body camera footage, visible in the video above, captured Bogus, covered in mud, moving through a room before suddenly fleeing from the officers.

The video then shows an officer running after Bogus, alerting dispatch of a “white man covered in mud and underway.”

Authorities said Bogus ran through a parking lot before climbing up a hill past cabins.

A drone was utilized, spotting Bogus at an intersection. An officer drove to the location after another officer possibly injured ligaments in his leg during the pursuit, as detailed in the affidavit. A different officer suffered a knee injury running up a hill, but whether he required medical attention remains uncertain.

Bogus was located at the residence of a local, who reported seeing him head towards his shed. Police approached the shed, opened its door, and discovered Bogus inside, where he complied with their orders and was subsequently arrested.

The affidavit stated that “no search incident to arrest was necessary as Bogus ran from us in a pair of black Speedos and no other clothing.” Bogus also injured his knee in the chase and was taken to a local hospital after his arrest.

He was later booked into the Clear Creek County Jail on multiple charges, including assault on a police officer, second-degree burglary, escape, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. Authorities said Bogus also had a felony warrant out of Douglas County for assault.
