GROVETOWN, Ga. () – Nate Boyer, a former Green Beret and NFL player, visited Columbia County on Wednesday to honor local military members and veterans at the annual Military Appreciation Executive Luncheon.
The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, Piedmont Augusta, along with other local chambers and veterans associations, organized the event at the Columbia County Exhibition Center in Grovetown on June 18. The luncheon annually acknowledges the sacrifices made by the men and women in service.
“Numerous veterans across the country are homeless, and there’s a suicide crisis. There are numerous challenges within the veteran community. However, there are also many organizations and resources looking to help; it’s just about ensuring they are accessed,” said Boyer, also the co-founder of Merging Vets and Players. “If you know someone transitioning out of service, ensure they’re connected. Many of us resist reaching out because we either don’t feel worthy or don’t want to ask for assistance. It’s quite common among vets, but we truly deserve and have earned the support.”
Event organizers said Wednesday’s luncheon is the least they can to say thanks.
