Comedian Reggie Carroll died in a shooting on Wednesday in Southhaven, Mississippi.
Police in Southaven responded to a shooting incident near Burton Lane, detaining one individual accused of murder, according to a statement from the department.
The victim, 52-year-old Carroll from Maryland, was discovered with gunshot injuries. Attempts by officers and medical personnel to save his life were unsuccessful, and Carroll succumbed to his wounds, as noted in the statement.
The circumstances leading to the shooting are still ambiguous. Neither the Southaven Police Department nor a representative for Carroll provided an immediate response to a request for comment on Monday.
On Saturday, police expressed, “Limited information is available for release due to the ongoing investigation. Our sympathies extend to Mr. Carroll’s family.”
Carroll did stand-up comedy and toured across the country. Club Mobtown Comedy paid tribute to Carroll in an Instagram post on Saturday.
A club shared, “Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, we appreciate your early support. The Mobtown family and Baltimore’s comedy scene are deeply saddened by losing one of our city’s remarkable talents. Our prayers are with Reggie’s family.”
The investigation into his death is ongoing.
