ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – This week, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office released a video showing various angles, which deputies claim depict 32-year-old Tyrone Bartley reaching behind a bedroom door for a rifle during a SWAT raid on May 16, ultimately leading to his death.

Orlando Against Police Crimes, which is representing Bartley’s family, disagrees.

“When you review the video, it appears he’s complying by opening the door at the deputies’ request, with his arm bent rather than extended, as one might do if reaching for something,” explained Edmund Anglero from Orlando Against Police Crimes.

Anglero suggested the video merely shows Bartley holding the door open and accused the OCSO of manipulating the footage to suggest that the rifle was behind the door.

“There is a jump cut what would be from his perspective looking towards the door, and then they show there was a rifle behind the door,” said Anglero.

The organization is demanding that the OCSO release the names of the deputies involved.

“I’m a teacher. If a teacher hits a child or does any sort of thing nefarious, their name is plastered all over the news, and everybody knows who they are. That should be the same for police,” said Anglero.

Deputies recovered several guns and drugs during the domestic violence call earlier that month and the following raid. Anglero claimed none of the drugs or weapons were found in Tyrone’s room.

“When officers came for the domestic violence call, they entered the room of a separate roommate and took the drugs and the guns from that room,” said Anglero.

I reached out to OCSO with all these claims, including several other questions:

This includes whethe Tyrone a person of interest or a suspect, and whether they suspect he was involved with any of the illegal activity there.

The OCSO responded with this statement:

“The investigation is underway, and we cannot comment more or answer specific questions about that incident or ongoing investigation.”

Anglero said the organization will have a meeting on Saturday to talk about the next steps to challenge the sheriff’s office. He also said that Bartley’s family will hold his funeral ceremony in Miami that day.
