I-74 bridge work near St. Joseph begins

ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) — Some drivers in Champaign County may need to plan a different route to work beginning Monday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that the repair work on the County Road 2500E bridge over Interstate 74, located just east of St. Joseph, is scheduled to start on August 18. The bridge will be closed for a period of four weeks, according to IDOT.

Drivers are urged to seek alternative routes to steer clear of the construction zone whenever they can. IDOT has indicated that drivers should anticipate delays and should allow extra time for their journeys when traveling through this area.

In the coming years, IDOT has plans to enhance more than 3,200 miles of highways and approximately 9 million square feet of bridge decks. To check for other current road closures in Illinois, visit IDOT’s website.
