Spanish Moss Trail extension construction underway

PORT ROYAL, S.C. () — The Beaufort County Spanish Moss Trail has begun the construction of the extension.

The construction of the Spanish Moss Trail started on September 8, with the majority of the work happening during the daytime hours. However, the roadwork being done on Ribaut Road is scheduled at night, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

As a result of this construction, residents should be aware that the shoulder of Ribaut Road will be closed from Rahn Lane to Drayton Drive. This closure will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is asking drivers to expect minor delays this upcoming week.

The project is anticipated to take about six months to complete, as it involves installing a pedestrian-activated traffic signal to ensure residents can cross safely.

The extension will be from Port Royal’s Ribaut Road to Appleton Road.
