(NewsNation) — Costco is planning to open a stand-alone gas station in Mission Viejo, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.
The announcement comes after the company expanded its gas stations’ operating hours to 10 p.m. for several of its warehouses earlier this year.
The planning documents indicate that a former Bed Bath & Beyond store will be torn down to accommodate 40 new fuel pumps. This gas station is set to be constructed approximately two miles from an existing Costco warehouse.
According to The Orange County Register, this will mark Costco’s most extensive gas station and the first one to be independent from its warehouse locations. Unfortunately for members, this means no grabbing a hot dog or slice of pizza at the attached food court.
As many as nine fuel truck deliveries are expected each day, with more than 9,500 vehicles stopping to fill their tanks between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m.
During an earnings call on March 6th, President and CEO Ron Vachris announced that Costco has extended the operating hours of its gas stations across North America. This move aims to make refueling at Costco more convenient for its members.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall, and the gas station is expected to open in the spring of 2026.
Nexstar reached out to Costco for additional details but did not immediately receive a reply.
