A man from Danville is currently in the hospital recuperating after being stabbed in the city during the night, with the suspect now in custody.
Deputy Chief Terry McCord reported through a news release that officers were dispatched to Main and Home Streets at approximately 6:15 p.m. in response to a 911 call reporting a stabbing incident.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 47-year-old male with a stab injury. He was transported by air to Carle Hospital in Urbana, where, according to McCord, he remains in stable condition.
The investigation eventually resulted in officers receiving “valuable” witness information and a description of the suspect. The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Daniel Kist of Danville, and McCord said officers found him nine blocks away from the crime scene.
Kist was arrested and booked into the Vermilion County Public Safety Building on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held there until he can appear before a judge.
“The Danville Police Department would like to thank the community and those who spoke up after seeing something,” McCord said. “Information provided to officers on the scene was crucial in locating the suspect who fled.”
