Danville man arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Danville man was arrested overnight after he was accused of shooting toward two people.

Shortly after midnight, police officers were sent to the 1500 block of E. Fairchild St. following a report of an armed individual, according to a statement from the Danville Police Department on Tuesday morning. The dispatch informed officers that a man had fired a shot in the direction of the caller.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with two victims who described the suspect and reported that he had discharged a handgun at them. Officers managed to track down the suspect at a residence nearby, identifying him as 28-year-old Melvin Alexander. A firearm belonging to him was later recovered by the police.

Alexander was apprehended and transported to the Public Safety Building before being booked into the Vermilion County Jail on charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
