Decatur's Scovill Zoo hosting Dementia Friendly Day

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Scovill Zoo is inviting people living with dementia to join them for a fun, relaxing day at the zoo on Monday.

The zoo hosts a Dementia Friendly Day on the first Monday of every month. This month’s gathering is set for July 7. Free admission, snacks, and social activities from 1-3 p.m. will be available for community members with dementia and their caregivers.

Event organizers highlight the socialization opportunities for individuals living with dementia. These interactions can enhance mental and physical well-being, boost confidence, uplift moods, and offer numerous other benefits.

The Dementia Friendly Days are organized in collaboration with Dementia Friendly Decatur, an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those affected by dementia. The zoo is located at 71 South Country Club Road. Dementia Friendly Days are already scheduled out for the next couple of months, and include:
