Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) announced on Thursday her intention to file articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., citing “health care chaos” under his administration.
On social media platform X, Stevens stated, “Health care chaos. Reckless cuts. Rising costs. Michiganders and families across the nation are bearing the burden of RFK Jr.’s plan. Enough is enough, which is why I’m drafting articles of impeachment against @SecKennedy.”
Stevens has repeatedly called for Kennedy’s removal from his role since he became health secretary.
She called for Kennedy to resign earlier this month, citing the slashing of medical research for pediatric cancer and vaccines.
“Michiganders are fed up with politicians who seek attention and neglect real issues. I have witnessed sufficient disorder from this administration and from Secretary Kennedy,” Stevens remarked in a statement dated Sept. 15.
“He’s endangering Michiganders’ health and safety. He must resign immediately. We need leaders who advocate for science, for health, and for the people, not those who jeopardize the progress our families and researchers strive to achieve.”
The decision to impeach Kennedy follows controversial federal health policies and recommendations that major medical associations have criticized, such as modifying childhood vaccination schedules and President Trump advising pregnant women against taking Tylenol.
Growing discomfort is emerging among Republican senators regarding health measures taken by the Trump administration, with one senator telling The Hill this week that Republicans are “starting to break ranks” over these issues.
