() New campaign finance numbers show the Republican National Committee has a major cash advantage over the Democratic National Committee as both parties prepare for the 2026 midterms.

At the end of June, the RNC held a $65.56 million advantage with more than $80.7 million in cash on hand, while the DNC finished out the month with around $15.2 million in cash on hand, according to CBS News. Democrats said it is still early in the year and highlighted their “record grassroots fundraising” in the month of June.

The party also says that at this point in 2017, just a year before it won 40 seats and regained control of the House, the party was in worse shape financially than it is now.

Democrats’ biggest concerns ahead of next year’s midterms are their polling numbers with voters, which have been declining since the 2024 presidential election.

The Democrats are looking forward to the midterms, however, since the elections have historically turned out to be good for the party that is not in power. They are also looking at the approval rating for President Donald Trump, which has been slumping recently.

GOP election and campaign officials say the new Republican Party shaped by Trump often struggles to get base voters to turn out when Trump himself isn’t on the ballot. Democrats also seem to be uniting around a shared message: They’re campaigning against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which is something they didn’t have at the beginning of the year.

Republicans do feel optimistic. As Congress members go home for the summer recess, they’ll be talking about the budget bill and sharing what advantages it will have for voters, despite Democrats thinking it will be a major liability.
