DENVER (KDVR) — According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, a Denver man has been charged with several offenses after allegedly threatening a driver with a machine gun, ordering them out of their car, and then stealing the vehicle.

On Wednesday, the USAO announced that a grand jury indicted 18-year-old Dhal Buk on federal charges for purported offenses such as carjacking, using a machine gun during a violent crime, and illegal possession of a machine gun.

The charges stem from an alleged armed carjacking that happened in the Montbello neighborhood early on June 25, 2025.

A press release referencing the criminal complaint states that Buk, along with others, approached a man sitting in his vehicle. Buk reportedly aimed a gun at the driver and demanded he exit the car. After complying, Buk took the vehicle and drove off with the group.

Subsequently, the stolen car collided with another vehicle in a parking lot, prompting those inside to flee on foot.

Later that morning, law enforcement was alerted to six rounds of automatic gunfire by a ShotSpotter in a nearby park. A juvenile accomplice was caught, and Buk was pursued and apprehended.

At the scene, officers found a modified Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun that had an extended magazine and multiple live rounds.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated, “Investigators confirmed the Glock handgun had been altered to fire automatically and was capable of firing multiple rounds with a single trigger pull.”

FBI Denver said its Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force worked with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Department of Corrections to apprehend the suspect.

The FBI’s task force is leading the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Dunn is handling the prosecution.
