(NewsNation) — Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has requested he serve his prison sentence at Fort Dix, a low-security prison in New Jersey.

Combs was sentenced Friday to four years and two months behind bars on two prostitution-related charges. He was also ordered to pay a $500,000 fine.

To tackle drug abuse problems and enhance family visits and rehabilitation, we urge the court to recommend that Mr. Combs be assigned to FCI Fort Dix by the Bureau of Prisons. This facility would serve for the Residential Drug Abuse Program and other educational and occupational initiatives,” Teny Geragos, a lawyer for Combs, stated in a letter to the judge on Monday.

FCI Fort Dix is a low-security federal prison known for offering more convenient visitation opportunities than higher-security prisons, as highlighted by NewsNation’s Laura Ingle.

This institution has previously housed notable individuals, such as ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez, actor Robert Downey Jr., and TV star Joe Giudice.

The prison’s commissary offers a list of foods, beverages, and personal care items, detailing their prices, which would be available to Combs if he is admitted there.

Diddy’s trial and sentencing

Earlier this year, Combs underwent a lengthy trial, which brought significant attention to his influence and celebrity status regarding allegations of human trafficking and prostitution.

He was found not guilty of racketeering but was convicted of two charges of prostitution under the Mann Act, potentially facing a 20-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors asked for 11 years and three months, arguing that the sentence would appropriately reflect the conduct of which he was convicted. The state said the proposed time was comparable to the sentences handed down in similar cases.

Judge Arun Subramanian ended up sentencing Combs to just over four years, telling Combs it would be “hard time in prison, away from your family, friends and community, but you will have a life afterward.”

Subramanian is permitted to recommend a prison for Combs, but ultimately, the Bureau of Prisons has the final say.

Combs’ legal team has said they plan to appeal his sentence.
