Video above: Trump declares Thursday, May 8, as ‘Victory Day’ for the US to honor World War II

(NEXSTAR) — As Tuesday, November 11 approaches, many will recognize it as Veterans Day, a time honored tradition etched into our calendars. For some, this day may also come with the benefit of a day off, particularly for those employed at post offices, banks, or other organizations that observe it as a public holiday.

This year, however, the day carries an additional layer of significance due to a directive from earlier in the year. In May, President Trump proclaimed the introduction of two new national holidays. Through a statement on Truth Social, Trump elaborated that these holidays serve to honor the conclusions of World Wars I and II.

In a fervent declaration, Trump expressed, “We won two World Wars, but we never took credit for it — Everyone else does! All over the World, the Allies are celebrating the Victory we had in World War II. The only Country that doesn’t celebrate is the United States of America, and the Victory was only accomplished because of us.”
