Unique grain bin in Charleston ready to be rented

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — When Airbnb comes to mind, many of us typically envision a house, apartment, or even a condo.

The Sweeneys in Charleston are changing the perspective by turning their grain bin into a must visit destination.

“My uncle always tells me that farmers only work like two months of the year, so I wanted to do something to prove him wrong,” said Drake Sweeney.

“So, we just put our minds together and came up with it,” said Michael Sweeney.

Drake and Michael Sweeney are bringing in a unique attraction to Central Illinois, and they believe the community will fall in love.

“It’s an opportunity to experience nature and escape city life,” Drake shared. “For instance, we’ve had folks travel from Chicago just to retreat from the congestion and chaos.”

They also have a luxury tub, an arcade game and TVs in every room.

“We’ve put together something distinct with a blend of everything we believe people will find appealing, allowing them to unwind and enjoy,” Michael expressed.

Michael said this grain bin creation is the first for them, and now the father and son both have other ideas of what could be next.

“Well, if I tell, it won’t be a surprise,” Drake said. “So, you don’t want to stay with that, huh? Well, we’ll see. It’s the perfect time to share.”

The grain bin is expected to be finished July 19, and the Sweeney’s are expecting to have an open house once it’s done. For more information, click here.
