DOJ sues Illinois over law providing in-state tuition to migrants

The United States Department of Justice has announced its decision to file a lawsuit against the state of Illinois over its laws that allow migrants to receive in-state tuition and scholarships.

The DOJ claims that these laws unlawfully discriminate against U.S. citizens since they aren’t provided the same access to reduced tuition rates or scholarships, and furthermore, it contradicts federal law.

“Under federal law, schools aren’t permitted to offer advantages to illegal aliens that are not available to U.S. citizens,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi in an official press release.

“This policy benefits illegal aliens over U.S. citizens who reside in other states and encourages more illegal immigration, all funded by taxpayers. Illinois residents deserve more,” commented U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft.

This lawsuit is also aligned with two executive orders signed by President Trump, which focus on terminating taxpayer funding of open borders and safeguarding American communities from criminal aliens, aiming to prevent migrants from obtaining taxpayer-funded benefits or favorable treatment.
