SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Georgia’s dove hunting season is slated to kick off on Sept. 6, as announced by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

The state’s annual dove season will continue through Oct. 12, allowing hunters to target the migratory birds in various phases, with shooting times starting one-half hour before sunrise and lasting until sunset. Each hunter is permitted a daily limit of 15 doves.

The season will also include a second period from November 22 to 30 and a third from December 19 to January 31.

Kara Nitschke, a wildlife biologist with the Georgia WRD, encourages hunters to use this as an opportunity to introduce others to the sport. “Dove hunting is an excellent way to introduce children to hunting because it provides a low-pressure, engaging, and exciting social environment,” she stated.

Public dove fields are available in Wildlife Management Areas and Voluntary Public Area Access locations. If you’re planning to hunt on private land, ensure that the field complies with regulations. You can confirm this by using the provided guide.
