ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — An Elizabethton resident has been charged with second-degree murder following a 2024 overdose death, as confirmed by a grand jury indictment.

According to a news release from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Charles Bradley Jones, 22, was arrested on Wednesday.

The charges originate from an inquiry initiated on Oct. 8, 2024, when officers were dispatched to a home on White Road in response to a report of an unresponsive woman.

An autopsy determined the 34-year-old woman’s cause of death as an overdose.

Jones provided the drugs to the woman, which resulted in her overdose and death, according to the CCSO.

Jones was taken to the Carter County Detention Center. As of Friday, he remains in the detention center on a $100,000 bond.

“I want to express my appreciation for the hard work and dedication of my officers in this investigation,” stated Sheriff Mike Fraley in an official release. “Our team is steadfast in their efforts to curb the influx of drugs into our community and to track down and bring to justice those who distribute them. If you traffic drugs, we will pursue prosecution. And should you sell drugs to an individual who subsequently overdoses and dies, you will be held responsible for their death.”
