SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Intense rainfall and subsequent flooding in Sevier County have resulted in at least one landslide and several road closures, according to county authorities.
Shortly before midday, the Sevier County Emergency Management Agency announced multiple road shutdowns due to flooding. Closed roads included Wiley Oakley Drive/Sunset Lane, Ridge Road at the Compost Plant, and Burden Hill Road/Eastgate Road.
Moreover, both the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Sevier County EMA reported the closure of the Gatlinburg Bypass following a landslide. EMA photos depict mud spread across the road and several smaller trees fallen onto it. The GSMNP stated on Saturday afternoon that the bypass will be closed indefinitely.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Sevier County that is in effect until 2 p.m.
Sevier County Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter share that the rain gauge at Greystone Heights recorded that almost 3.5 inches of rain had fallen Saturday.
