ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — The Wasps are back on the gridiron this fall, determined to prove that last year’s success was just the beginning.
Emory & Henry, under the guidance of head coach Quintin Hunter, is gearing up for the 2025 season after a remarkable 9–2 performance that drew considerable attention in the South Atlantic Conference. Last season, the Wasps ended up in a three-way tie for third place in the league standings and clinched second place within the Mountain Division.
The SAC coaches’ poll has picked E&H to finish fourth this year behind Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate, and Carson-Newman.
Coach Hunter commented, “It’s like a family at Emory and Henry football. We embody the blue-collar gold standard, and it’s really the unique culture here that makes a difference. Watching these players grow both on and off the field is truly exciting. I’m eager to see what lies ahead for this team.”
The SAC has highlighted six Wasps in its Preseason Players to Watch list. From the offense, senior wide receiver Cam Peoples, senior running back Jordan Jackson, and senior offensive lineman Deshaun Sharp have been recognized. On the defensive side, senior defensive backs Shawn Collins and Jarrell Harrison, along with junior defensive lineman Ean Rhea, are also featured.
The 2025 season will begin for Emory & Henry on Saturday, August 31, with a neutral-site game against Glenville State University. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. at Herbert Hoover High School in Elkview, West Virginia.
