The Evans County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) revealed that it carried out a three-day operation aimed at preventing crime in response to recent shootings in Claxton and nearby regions.
The incidents on Church Street and Deloach Mill Road were linked to suspects with connections to surrounding areas, including Evans County. This led Sheriff Randall Edwards to organize a coordinated effort called “You Can’t Have Claxton,” involving multiple agencies over three days.
In the preparation phase of the operation, authorities discovered that shell casings found locally matched those from neighboring areas, thereby connecting the Evans County incidents to other crimes.
Throughout the operation, there was an increased law enforcement presence in Claxton and Hagan, with additional safety checks conducted on highways leading into Evans County. The goal was to deter further crimes, collect information, and make arrests relating to the recent shootings and other related offenses.
The operation included collaborations with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Claxton Police, as well as deputies from the ECSO.
