LONDON — Former English Premier League player Thomas Partey has been accused of rape and sexual assault, as announced by London’s Metropolitan Police on Friday.
The Ghana international faces charges including five counts of rape and one of sexual assault. These allegations concern incidents involving three women and reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022, according to the police statement.
Partey‘s management did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
He is due to appear at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 5.
Partey, aged 32, was transferred from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal for 50 million euros ($59 million) in October 2020 and quickly established himself as an essential player in Arsenal’s main squad.
He was first arrested in July 2022, though he was not named at the time and continued to play for Arsenal while investigations were ongoing.
