In SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) — A former Moultrie County Board member, Scott Buxton, is now facing more charges related to child pornography following a court appearance on Friday.

Initially, Buxton, 59, was charged with two counts of possessing videos of child sexual abuse, stemming from an investigation by Illinois State Police. On Friday, four additional charges were brought against him just before a status hearing.

The new charges consist of three Class 3 felonies for possessing photos or films depicting child pornography. Also included is a Class 2 felony, which specifies that the victim was under 13 years old.

These new charges are added to the Class X and Class 2 felonies for which Buxton was charged in June. He had served on the Moultrie County Board since 2022 and as Marrowbone Township Supervisor from April until his resignation following his arrest.

During the status hearing on Friday, Buxton chose to waive formal arraignment on the newly filed charges. A pretrial hearing has been set for November 21. In the meantime, he remains in the custody of the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office.

Jesse Danley, the State’s Attorney from Coles County, is acting as the special prosecutor in the case. Buxton’s previous role as a county board member creates a conflict of interest for the Moultrie County State’s Attorney’s office. WCIA has reached out to Danley for further details on the new charges but has yet to receive a response.
