SEOUL – On Friday, special prosecutors in South Korea charged the wife of imprisoned former President Yoon Suk Yeol and ex-Prime Minister Han Duck-soo with criminal offenses.
The charges against Kim Keon Hee, the former first lady, and Han result from three special prosecutor investigations initiated under liberal President Lee Jae Myung’s administration. These investigations focus on the term of Yoon, a conservative who was ousted from office in April and subsequently re-arrested last month due to his martial law order from December.
Yoon’s former defense minister, safety minister, along with several senior military leaders and police officials, have already been detained over their roles in enforcing martial law.
