UPDATE: Person shot in Macon wielded machete, drove squad car, rammed police, aimed shotgun at officers

NEOGA, Ill. (WCIA) — A tragic accident on Interstate 57 in Neoga involving a car and a semi-truck has resulted in the death of “at least” one individual, as reported by the Illinois State Police.

At around 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, officers from Illinois State Police Troop 9 were dispatched to the northbound section of I-57 near the US-45 milepost 177. Initial reports indicate that the passenger vehicle veered from the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes, leading to a collision with a semi-truck.

The vehicle became fully engulfed in fire, and at this time, at least one occupant from the vehicle has been declared deceased.

The northbound lanes of I-57 will be closed for a significant amount of time as authorities continue their investigation. No further details have been released at this moment.
