CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Illinois is off to a solid start in Eugene, Oregon.

The Illini have five athletes who have earned All-American status after two days of competition, all in field events.

Cody Johnston secured a seventh-place finish in the men’s pole vault on Wednesday, successfully clearing a height of 5.53 meters (18 feet, 1.75 inches). This accomplishment marks his third time being named an All-American, having previously placed eighth at the 2025 indoor national championships and fifth at the 2024 outdoor championships.

Illinois had a top finisher in the women’s pole vault, too. Mia Morello took 8th place with a jump of 4.39m (14 feet-4.75 inches).

Two Illinois long jumpers finished with All-American status. Tacoria Humphrey was fourth and and Sophia Beckmon was sixth.

Abria Smith represented Illinois in women’s shot put with a runner-up finish after throwing a best mark of 18.85m (61 feet-10.25 inches).

Competition continues Friday and Saturday.
