A US Coast Guard Station boat crew rescued a kite surfer in distress on Saturday after strong winds and seas hindered the individual’s ability to return to shore.

The U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce reported no medical concerns for the rescued individual.

The rescue operation was initiated after a good Samaritan contacted Sector Miami watchstanders at approximately 1 p.m. to report the kite surfer’s distress.

The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and deployed the Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce crew. The Coast Guard crew arrived on scene and assisted the kite surfer in reaching the shore.

Fort Pierce Police Department and St. Lucie Police and Fire Rescue boat crews also responded to the incident.

“Our crews and partners consistently prepare to respond to these situations day and night,” said Chief Warrant Officer Ryan Randy, commanding officer of Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce. “Thanks to the good Samaritan’s prompt call for help, we were able to get on scene quickly and conduct a successful rescue before anything bad happened.”
