PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – In a recent incident, a police officer from Port St. Lucie was wounded by gunfire while attending to a report of a “disturbance” on Monday, as detailed in an official statement.

Authorities reported that upon arriving at the scene on the 11000 block of SW Lake Park, an officer was struck by a bullet during the investigation of the situation.

The injured officer was promptly transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Ft. Pierce. However, the officer’s current medical status has not been disclosed by officials.

Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

“The scene has been secured and law enforcement is diligently probing the incident,” part of the statement read.

This event follows closely on the heels of a tragic episode in Indian River County, where a sheriff’s deputy lost his life and several others sustained injuries while executing an eviction notice near Vero Beach.
