WHITE PINE, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man wanted out of Florida for alleged sexual battery of a child was arrested in White Pine Thursday morning.
The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) reports that Eleazar Briones-Vega is being sought in Sarasota County, Florida, on charges of capital sexual battery against a minor.
The USMS office in Greeneville received information on Thursday morning suggesting that Briones-Vega might be located in “upper East Tennessee,” according to a news release from the agency.
Members of the Eastern Tennessee USMS Smoky Mountains Task Force found and arrested Briones-Vega in White Pine without incident.
Investigators with the Marshals Service discovered that Briones-Vega, who is in the U.S. without legal status, was allegedly involved in sexually abusive behavior towards a minor over a span of three years before it was reported. The Marshals Service states that the victim was younger than 10 years old when the abuse began.
After the alleged sexual battery was reported, Briones-Vega fled Florida.
Briones-Vega was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Center. The USMS reports he is awaiting extradition to Florida.
“I commend the swift actions of our Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force in finding and arresting this individual,” stated David Jolley, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Tennessee. “Such offenders have no place in our state or country.”
