Ford Motor Co. is recalling over 200,000 vehicles due to a software issue that can cause the rearview camera to malfunction, thereby raising the risk of accidents and injuries.

The automaker informed U.S. highway safety officials that the camera might show a blank screen or the image might stay on the display after reversing is complete, potentially causing a distraction.

Dealerships will eventually update the camera software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by July 28.

The recall is identified by Ford as 25S72. Owners can reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for more information. Alternatively, they can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vehicle safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
