() Former Secret Service Special Agent Charles Marino pondered whether reopening Alcatraz is the most effective solution for the Trump administration.
Speaking to “The Hill” on Monday night, Marino asked if “the bang [was] worth the buck” and suggested there were perhaps more viable alternatives.
“To say that the plumbing may need some work is an understatement,” Marino said. “The place needs a total revamp … so you’re basically talking about building from scratch.
“If we’re talking about expanding corrections capabilities within the United States, I would argue there’s probably cheaper places to build a new supermax location,” Marino added.
President Trump has directed federal authorities to expand and reopen the historic prison to house the U.S.’ “most ruthless, violent” criminals.
